Jobs at the California Energy Commission’s AB 758 Program

 Posted by Allan on December 15th, 2010

Passing along information about job opportunities at the California Energy Commission:

The California Energy Commission’s brand new AB 758 program is hiring.

AB 758 Allows the Energy Commission to implement a far-reaching program to reduce energy consumption in the state’s existing residential and non-residential buildings.  The existing building sector is critically important for our energy and environmental goals as 72% of California’s 13 million residential buildings and over 5 billion square feet of commercial structures were built before the implementation of California’s energy efficiency building code (Title 24) in the early 1980’s. This means that 3 out of 4 homes in California have never had to comply with any energy efficiency requirements whatsoever. While Title 24 has improved building efficiency by more than 50%, these technologies have not been applied to existing buildings in a comprehensive manner.

We want to hire you to do something about it!

AB 758 calls on the Commission to implement a comprehensive new program
to reduce energy consumption in buildings that will include:
Energy assessments;
Building benchmarking;
Energy ratings;
Energy efficiency upgrades;
Public and private sector energy efficiency financing;
Public outreach and education; and
Green workforce training

The Commission will be hiring 10 new staff  for this exciting opportunity in the first quarter of 2011.  If you want to be one of them you need to be on an Energy Commission eligibility list.  For the job you want, visit our website at: http://energy.ca.gov/careers/exams.html.
Read through the different classifications and see which ones you qualify for and take the test.  If you pass, we can  interview you and you could then rock this State.

We are looking at hiring:

Energy Commission Specialist I
Mechanical Engineers
Electrical Engineer
Associate Energy Specialist (Efficiency)

Make a difference in the world, take the test and come on board and be a part of the clean energy movement.
